Athol Savings Bank

I want to Learn About ASB

History

For over 140 years Athol Savings Bank has served various communities located throughout central Massachusetts. The Bank originated in 1867 when a group of local men in Athol, MA had a concept of beginning a local savings bank that would offer financial deposit and lending services to the residents of the small New England town. Many banking relationships were formed around the kitchen table, or out in the farmer's pasture, when the banking employees went out into the community to seek new relationships. Banking, in those days, consisted of verbal agreements sealed with a handshake. Although banking products and services have vastly changed today, Athol Savings Bank still maintains the same small-town friendly banking environment that was born over 140 years ago. The same principles and philosophies remain a constant part of the ASB culture and its employees are as dedicated and committed to providing quality customer service as they were over 140 years ago.

ASB is a mutual savings bank, owned by the customers of the Bank. We are proud to have the financial strength and stability, which has never waivered over the course of many years. Through the Great Depression, World Wars, and bouts of economic instability, we have been diligent and remain strong and well capitalized. The services that are offered are based on customer needs and as needs change, so do our products with enhancements and new technology. We continue to service our customers face-to-face with a staff that you will know and recognize, and we also will continue to cater to those who prefer to bank electronically.

Athol Savings Bank with offices in Athol, Baldwinville, Winchendon, Ashburnham, Gardner and Barre has stood the test of time and we take pride in consistently being the premier Bank in the communities that we serve.
